Photographer Notes: On May 26, 2007 I was fortunate to be the first person to spot this Missiissippi Kite at the South Coast Botanic Garden here on Los Angeles' Palos Verdes Peninsula. My sighting was only the 5th recorded time in Los Angeles County that it's been seen; its home territory is in the southeastern US with an isolated pocket in Arizona. Ornithologists speculated that this particular Kite "turned left instead of right" on the way back from its South American winter grounds. It stayed at the Garden for 9 days then disappeared as mysteriously as it arrived. This was taken with the Sigma "Bigma" 50-500mm lens, ISO 250, f6.7, 1/160 sec @ 500mm.
