The fourteenth edition of World in Pictures Day is slated for NEXT Saturday, March 13, 2010.

For those that don't know, World in Pictures Day is a photographyvoice.com initiative to bring together photographers from around the world in an attempt to document one day in the life of this world we share.

WPD is open to photographers of all skill levels and while photography prowess is a definite plus, it's not a requirement. Don't be afraid of expressing yourself with your camera!

How it works is quite simple. Sometime during the scheduled World in Pictures Day, plan and capture a creative image that reflects the world around you. It can be your home, your pets, your family, your city, your car, yourself. Whatever you like! You can focus on the abstract, photojournalism, art, it's your craft -- you decide what you want to show.

The catch? Only that you are allowed to submit only ONE photo to the process! So choose wisely.

The way to a man's heart, they say, is through his stomach. And the way to get a POTD in the theme category for March is in your (or someone's) kitchen.

Food, prep, utensils.

Kitchen gadgets, Gidget using a gadget, Inspector Gadget (maybe not him actually).

Breakfast, lunch, dinner. Brunch, Lupper, Midnight Snack.

Take your best shot of something found in or about the kitchen.

Button, button, who's got the button?

They truly are all around us. On our clothes, our electronics, our toys. Buttons are all over the place. Now button your lip, button your collar, and button down the hatches (yes, I know) and take your own creative style and apply it to the February POTD category.

For those in the USA, Eastern Time Zone: HAPPY NEW YEAR! For those west of us, I won't spoil the ending by telling you we're in 2010 now. For those to the east who got here first, nyah nyah nyah. :)

We're now in the last year of the first decade of the twenty-first century. May it be a safe, fun, God-blessed, and photographically productive year for you all!

Our cameras collect information in shades of red, green, and blue and combine them to give us the millions of colors we see in our photos.

Now take some of the load off the camera and submit a photo containing subjects featuring red, green AND blue. For example, your three chipmunks could each wear a different sweater. Three rubber balls. One red, one green, one blue. Or a red bench set against a blue sky and green field.

The RGB should be prominent compared to the other colors... so be creative.

The Photo of the Day categories are being revamped for 2010. In a streamlining move, the total number of categories is being reduced from 12 currently to six. We're just combining some that have been lagging a bit and insuring the each days selections will be among some of the best photos on the web.

Entry into the current categories will end on December 29. On January 1, 2010 all photos in the current categories will be automatically moved to their proper new category. There is no need to resubmit your entries. On December 30, 2009, you may start directly uploading to the new categories.

Basically, for those that have yet to take part, WPD is an effort to chronicle one single day around the world. Submit ONE photo that was taken *ON* December 12, 2009 to show us your part of the world!

When something works, you stick with it. So for the fourth straight December, our monthly POTD category is... Christmas!

The decorations have been up in towns and stores for weeks and most likely in your own house for several days. So Christmas is coming, the goose is getting fat, get another POTD in your photographer "hat"...

It's late, so don't expect Shakespeare!!!

To our our members and readers in the USA, I just want to say have a safe and wonderful and very happy Thanksgiving Day!

Things in this country have been better, but they've certainly been a lot worse and we still have much to be thankful for.

I am thankful for all of you who visit this site daily, contribute, encourage others and make this worth doing.

For the rest of you around the world who are not observing this day, take a moment to be thankful for all you have (and for all you don't). We should all count our blessing each and every day, no matter where we live, and remember He Who has so richly blessed us.

They say a picture paints a thousand words -- but that would be one LONG joke in November.

But our photos can reflect the funny side of life, humorous daily situations or the antics of our loved ones.

So let your entries for November bring a smile to our face and an LOL to our typing. Category is Humor and is open now for submissions.

We apologize that someone signed up for an account and used it to spam our members with annoying scam emails. Typically restricting mail to account holders solves the problem, but this person went through the account creation process to get around it.

A few reported the problem yesterday but never provided us with followup information, so we weren't exactly sure if this was a true problem.

If you received a message from Levi Belle, we apologize and their account has been blocked. Should they try again with a new account, please let us know ASAP.

The next edition of World in Pictures Day is less than a week away, next Saturday September 5, 2009.

Make sure you have your camera with you and share one image for your part of the world. The goal is to document this one day on earth.

Shapes are all around us. Everything is made up of shapes - triangles, squares, circles, hexagaons and more come together to make up the world around us.

So take your best photo where the main subject is a geometical shape of some sort or represents geometry in some capacity.

The August POTD Category is one that every single user of photographyvoice.com can take part in. No special seasons, no fancy weather gear, no purchase necessary, void where prohibited. Nothing special required. You already have what you need.

After all, you're looking at one right now.

That's right: COMPUTERS! Monitors, mice, memory. Drives, discs, data. Your subject: something that relates to the binary world of computers.

We all had them. We all played with them. Some of us still do. The subject for July's POTD category is TOYS. Toys in action. Toys in the studio. Toys in the Attic.

Submit your best toy-related shots starting now and throughout the month of July.

From time to time rules get lost in the shuffle and fall through the cracks, so I thought it would be good to post a quick reminder about WPD entries and POTD. Basically as the post title says, WPD entries are not eligible for POTD consideration.

I cannot keep up with all of them, so I trust each photographer to cull WPD entries from their submissions. But on occasion one will get through so I have to pull it from the winners list. Sadly this happened today and my apologies for missing it and letting it get posted in the first place.

UPDATE: The 11th (wow!) edition of "World in Pictures Day" is just TODAY!: June 6, 2009. If you've never taken part, now would be a great time to start. Simply carry your camera with you next Saturday and take an interesting photo from your part of the world.

The purpose of this is effort is to document a single day around the world. Rainy, sunny, snowy(?) or what have you. This is for the most part an exercise in your photo-journalism skills, deciding what you want to share that represents who you are, where you're from, or what you do. Or something in your area that is totally not you! The choice is yours.

Remember too that your photo MUST BE TAKEN on June 6, 2009!

One of the more popular monthly POTD categories once again comes up to the plate ready to hit a home run, score a goal, or make a free throw. Sports is the category for June. Take a photo of something sports related -- either action shots, landscapes of playing fields or courts, or even studio shots of athletic equipment.

If its sports related, we want to see it!
