Photographer Notes:
A Reddish Egret, rare for the southern California area, made an appearance at the Bolsa Chica Ecological Preserve in Orange County. They're known for their frenzied antics chasing after fish, and here it's trying to balance on a tree snag while going after something it has spotted in the water. Taken using the Sigma "Bigma" 50-500mm lens, ISO 400, f10, 1/1000 sec, EV -7 @ 420mm.

WOW what a find Steve love the clarity , Color and the Wing Span really give us a close up look at the layers of feathers on this rare Egret. BIG CONGRATS on your POTD win.

Superb capture of this rare egret caught in the midst of preforming a balancing act. Love the rich detail, color, lighting, and especially the flutter of its wings and the expression captured. A big congrats on this well deserved POTD, Steve!!!

Steve...You always manage to spot these rare finds for your area and then record the events so beautifully! The lighting is superb on this egret showing the beautiful color and detail in the feathers...congrats on a superb capture!
