Davie Poplar
by Brett Turner (BrettTurner)
Camera: Pentax K100D
Location: Chapel Hill, North Carolina
United States of America
Photographer Notes: My daughter admiring the Davie Poplar, the 300+ year-old tree under which the University of North Carolina was allegedly founded. Local legend says that the University will thrive only so long as the tree remains standing. After damage suffered in a 1993 hurricane, the tree is now stabilized by a core of cement! Single exposure, but processed with layers and a mask to maximize shadow detail without blowing out the sky.
