Beautiful clarity and textures on a particularly tough to shoot dark subject. Nice job Raymond. Congrats on POTD!

A very difficult bird to capture well due to the darkness of its feathers...you did a masterful job showing plenty of detail in the low light areas! Congratulations!

Nice Capture Ray. In addition to the bird, I love all the detail in the old, weathered post.

Great capture. Terrific detail in the coloring of the chest, nape and top of the wing. What species of bird is this? Congratulation.

Another great capture, Raymond. Wonderful detail on a black bird which is difficult to capture well. I really like the textures and detail in the post too....congrats!

Thank you all for the great comments! Much appreciated! Candice: this bird is called a Groove-billed Ani. There is also the Smooth-billed variety (more rare than this one). They are quite common in the Costa Rica rural low lands. They are known as "Tijo", because of the call they make, which sounds very much like that word.

This is such an excellent capture Ray! Superb lighting and feather detail, and a nice creamy DOF! Love the contrast in texures in this image too! Congrats!
