Photographer Notes:
Beware of raccoons out & about in the daytime. Right after I took this, this raccoon began to shake, snarl, drool, lost control of his bodily functions, and went after our cat, protecting her kittens.

Congratulations for the great coon shot, Joy! Not all daytime coons are rabid. I have one female that's been coming out in the daytime to feed for the past four Springs while she's nursing a new litter. The first time I saw her I thought she was rabid but she's quite healthy. Yours certainly sounds sick, though.

A great capture indeed..what a face! Always better to be safe...since one never knows the circumstances of the daytime meanderings. Nice detail and DOF showing well the intense expression here! Congrats Joy!

Your surrounding greenery really shows up the coat and markings of this raccoon well! Congratulations on your POTD, Joy!

A great close up shot of this raccoon, Joy! My vet did say that raccoons are the biggest carrier of rabies and are a huge threat to small animal life...sounds very suspicious given the signs you mentioned. The detail & expression in your shot is terrific...congrats!
