Mansion House Burns

Photographer Notes:
Built in 1834, the Mansion House caught fire on January 14, 2010. It was a hospital at one time, where nuns cared for Confederate prisoners, also a convent and school, and lastly apartments. An Alton firefighter stands on the pumper truck as they attempt to extinquish the flames.

Very striking image Kathy. It is always sad to see an old landmark destroyed in fire. Congrats on POTD!

Thanks for everyone's comments. We could see this from our front window, just a few houses down the street. Sadly, the demolition permit for the house was approved yesterday.
