Thank you Rusty! I'm sure I was more excited over our encounter than he was...! Thanks PV for choosing this image today!

Excellent macro!
Linn Smith commented on July 17, 2011 12:17:
Wow! What a grand closeup of this bat! The clarity and fine details are striking as well as the deep color of its fur! Beautifully photographed...big congratulations on your win!
Norma Smiles commented on July 17, 2011 14:50:
Whoa! Great closeup, Renee. Nice shot.
Renee Harrell commented on July 17, 2011 16:19:
Thanks Helmut, Linn, and Norma! I used a 100mm Macro lens and gradually was within 8" of him. I don't think he minded too much since he stayed put thru over 100 shots...! ;0)

I've never been overly crazy about bats and never encountered one close up. But this little guy is kind of cute! Lovely detailed capture of it! Congrats on your POTD!
Renee Harrell commented on July 17, 2011 22:21:
Thanks Jeannie! Yes, he's cute here. Some of the other shots more closely resemble a little demon... They serve an important purpose helping to control the pesky flying insects like mosquitos, gnats, and the like. I would never harm one.

A fabulous close up, Renee, striking detail. I have never seen one up this close before...excellent work!
Renee Harrell commented on July 19, 2011 20:52:
Thanks Patrice...nor have I. I couldn't pass up the opportunity to get a closer look.
Patrice Cigallio Wesa commented on July 19, 2011 22:21:
What I really meant to say, Renee, was that I never saw a shot of a bat as striking as the one you captured. So glad that this unique opportunity presented itself :)
