Casting Bread Upon The Waters
by C. L. Henson (clhenson)
Camera:
Panasonic Lumix FZ-20
Location:
San Diego, California

United States of America

Photographer Notes:
I was greatly amused to see these inner city teens having fun feeding the semi-wild ducks at Chollas Lake. As a reservoir built in 1901, Chollas Lake helped serve early San Diego's water supply. In 1966 it was turned over to the Park and Recreation Department, and was designated a youth fishing lake (for children ages 15 and under only) in 1971. The 16-acre lake is located near the heart of a densely-populated area and is a popular destination for for kids who frequently take advantage of the free fishing, and ever-hungry ducks and geese. Other park amenities include an 8/10's-of-a-mile dirt path around the lake for walking, jogging, and bicycling; picnic tables with barbecue grills; children's play equipment; a small basketball court; hiking trails; and a multi-purpose ball field in North Chollas canyon.

That's a great shot CL. I wonder if they are thinking how peaceful life is while they are there as opposed to their busy lives in the noisy city? Love the pic and the thoughts it brings to mind.

I can tell you this is a great image. It conjures up all things good for me. This isn't an easy place to take a wide shot like this, the sun often being harsh with lots of reflections off the lake. From experience there, I can tell you...you did gooood! The image is definitely a documentary. The tough guys feeding the ducks is a good sign.
