Comments Disabled
One of the fixes for the site is the ability to regulate comments more effectively. Unfortunately, from time to time we get hackers who like to share their nuggets of stupidity on our photos. Each measure we put in place they circumvent. So while the site is in hiatus, I've shut down commenting for the site in general.
Thanks for your patience!

POTD Offline until 2012
Effective 11/15/2011 the photographyvoice.com POTD is suspended until further notice.
Expect things to be back up around the first of the year, targeting January 1, 2012.
I appreciate your continued support of the site and hope you'll bear with me during this time. Rest assured this is not a financial or health related issue. Just taking some time off to work on some long overdue improvements.
Please stay tuned to the site as developments progress.
Thanks!

October POTD Category: Apples and Oranges
Sorry for the late notice... the category has been open for a few hours, but I forgot to post to the news feed.
This month (It's October already!!!) is Apples OR Oranges. One or the other... Or both if you prefer.
Not PINE-Apples.
Not Orange colored things...
Real Fruits... Apples. Oranges. They don't have to be the main attraction, they can be included in your shot in an interesting way.
Category is open now (still), so get cranking!

Thanks for Five Wonderful Years!!!
Today marks the fifth birthday or anniversary of photographyvoice.com and I want to thank everyone who has been a part of this site during that period.
Our first POTD Selections came on September 25, 2006 ( View them here) and the excellent photos have been coming ever since.
We've had:
- 16,684 photos selected as POTD in those five years.
- 1,087 different photographers win a POTD.
- 300 different cameras produce a POTD.
- 113 countries represented in the photos.
- 300+ members on our Facebook Page
This does not include all the many, many, many thousands of entries as well as World in Pictures Day participations.
Thank you so much for making this site what it is. I hope we can provide more and better features in the very near future.

World in Pictures Day 18: September 11, 2011
While September 11, 2001 was a terrible day in American history, the horror of it was shared by the world as a whole.
As this year marks the 10th anniversary of that senseless attack, I felt it would be only fitting to show the world as it is a decade later. Therefore our next World in Pictures Day edition (the 18th) will be 9/11/2011.
As usual, take a photo of your part of the world showing life as it happens. Your photo MUST be taken when it is September 11 where you are. Nothing from the tenth or the twelfth.
Your entry does not have to cover memorials or observances. Simply showing that life indeed goes on if fitting enough tribute.
Full details can be found at http://photographyvoice.com/world-in-pictures-day
As always we all look forward to seeing your world.

September POTD Category: Five
The Jacksons
Golden Rings
Little Peppers
Fingers
Guys (yum!)
Boroughs of New York
Good things come in fives and September's POTD category is no different. The number 5 is the theme and we're looking for either the number 5 (not the word) OR five of your subject (not four or six or 300). Find a way to photograph the number or the amount in an interesting way.
Category is open now for submissions. Looking forward to your entries!
Oh yeah. photographyvoice.com will turn five years old in September as well, so that sorta makes the theme relevant. :)

Category is open now for submissions.

All Walled In for June
"All in all, we're just another brick in the wall." - Pink Floyd
"When the walls come tumbling down." - John Mellencamp
"Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall." - Mother Goose
Walls are a part of our daily lives, both physically and emotionally. I would say they are an unsung part of our lives, but as you can see above, that would not be accurate.
Regardless, walls serve many purpose in photography. Leading the eye. Being the backdrop. Hosting the lizard or insect you're more focused on. (Focused, get it?) Include a wall in your shot for June's POTD theme category and remember to make it interesting!
Category is open now for submissions.

Magic mirror, tell me today...
Did all my photographers have fun today?" ~ Miss Sally
Well now's your time to reflect on your POTD entries for May. Using a mirror, water, bald head or other shiny surface, submit photos that show a subject along with it's reflection. All the regular rules apply, you cannot use tools to mirror the image...

'Like' Photos on Facebook
If you have a POTD selected, or just really like one, there is now an option to share that photo with your friends on Facebook. Under each photo description is a new LIKE button, if you have a Facebook account, you can just click the button and it will be shared on your profile page for others to see.
Don't worry, this is transparent to us and we will not see your Facebook username, account or other information.
This will however, help others to find the site and appreciate the great work you all do!

Put Your Subject in Motion for April POTD
Capturing a subject in motion and conveying that motion is one of the hardest photos to do well. So that is the challenge upon you for April. Your photo should clearly indicate the subject is moving and be an interesting photo. Either the subject is blurred or the background is blurred as you pan the camera. Freeze frames and interesting patterns with the whole scene blurred is not what we're looking for here.
Think it over and take your best shot. Category is open now for submissions.

Site Speed Fix - Ads Pulled
Hopefully the problem with the slowness of the site is diminished on the most accessed pages. POTD viewing, Uploading, Main Page, etc. should all be markedly imrproved. One of our ad providers has been having server issues and unfortunately this was not coded to be plug and play. So to resolve this, I've turned off all ads for the time being.
If a page you regularly visit is showing ads and lagging (particularly from shopping.com), let me know please and I'll pull it.
As always, thanks for your patience!

UPDATE: Thanks to the API Team, we now have this working and today's winners are live!

January POTD Category: Letters Without Letters
Wow... I toyed with not having a theme category for January and got bombarded with emails requesting one... so here you go.
For January, look around to find letters (A-Z) or in another language (maybe?) in nature or in the world -- without using any actual letters. So taking a photo of a sign does not count. But taking a photo of a tree that looks like the letter V or Y would count. Or anything else that looks like, resembles, or clearly hints at a letter.
Have fun!
